Aug. 23, 1937 n April 26, 2009
Nettie Elizabeth Belliveau "Aunt Nettie," 71, of Corvallis died Sunday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Born in Waterloo, Iowa, she was the daughter of Jesse and Goldie Glaspie Gregory. She was the eldest of 10 children. Nettie attended school in Iowa and began her working career as a nurse. She married Donald E. Edmondson, and the couple moved to the Albany area. Don was tragically killed in an accident on Nettie's birthday in 1965. Nettie was working as a bartender at the Linton House when she met and married Perry E. York. They had two children, Perry Jr. and Kimberly York. Nettie and Perry later divorced. In 1973, Edgar E. Belliveau came into her life and they were married for 20 years until his death on Aug. 22, 1993.
Nettie was very talented at creating any type of craft. She enjoyed knitting, quilting and ceramics. She and Ed operated a ceramics shop for some time, and Nettie volunteered knitting lap blankets for area nursing homes. After retirement, she and Ed served as camp hosts. She also enjoyed "Ladies Casino Nights" with her sisters. She will be remembered as "the world's best cook," according to her family, and she had an uncanny ability to put together absolutely delicious dishes without a written recipe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Donald and Edgar, her daughter Kimberly, her brothers Gary and LaVerne and her sister Dona. Nettie is survived by her son and his wife Perry Jr. and Tressa York of Battleground, Wash.; two grandsons Michael and Nicholas York; step daughter and her husband Susan and Barry Cuthbert and son James; sister, Barbara Burdge of Corvallis; sisters and their husbands Dixie and Robert Quayle, Dina and Lauren Smith all of Corvallis; brother and his wife Larry and Lin Gregory of Iowa, brothers Dennis Gregory of Albany and Terry Gregory of Albany.
Memorial donations in Nettie's name may be directed to Benton Hospice or Heartland Humane Society in care of McHenry Funeral Home 206 N.W. Fifth St., Corvallis, OR 97330. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday at McHenry Funeral Home. Online condolences via: www.mchenryfuneralhome.com.
