Ila Jean Grimes, 83, of Lebanon died Wednesday evening at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.
Ila was born in Washington, Ark., the daughter of Lee and Lottie (Roling) Stanley. She lived in Mount Ida, Ark., on her family's farm while attending school. While in high school, she met Starlin D. Grimes. The couple was joined in marriage Feb. 9, 1946, at the courthouse in Hot Springs, Ark. In 1948, they moved with another couple who were close friends to Lebanon.
She had lived in Lebanon for more than 50 years in the house that she and her husband built with their close friends. She has faithfully served as a greeter at the Lebanon First Assembly of God for more than 40 years, rarely missing a Sunday.
Ila was preceded in death by her husband, Starlin, on Oct. 24, 1999.
She is survived by her son, Tony Grimes of Lebanon; daughter Penelope deJesus of Lebanon; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews; and many church family members she acquired over the years.
A viewing will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lebanon First Assembly of God. A Private burial will be in the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery.
