Robert M. Miller, 69, of Lebanon died Sunday at his home.

Robert was born in Albany, the son of Guy and Marie (Dowdal) Miller. He graduated from Lebanon Union High School in 1958. After high school he joined the Coast Guard and served from 1959 to 1963.

After his military discharge, he returned to Lebanon, where he worked at Champion Building Products until 1973. He attended Linn-Benton Community College, where he received his welding certification in 1970. He worked for several area welding shops, retiring from Emerald Steel in Eugene in 2001.

Robert married Glynda Smith in 1961; the couple divorced several years later. He married Janet Connet-Kimball in Vancouver, Wash., on Dec. 1, 1984.

Robert was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 51. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and sightseeing. His fishing trips took him to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island, Ketchikan and Homer, Alaska, the Umpqua and Yaquina rivers and the Pacific Ocean. He also took trips to Puerto Vallarta, Lake Havasu City and Yuma, Ariz., Maui, Hawaii, and the Grand Canyon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenny, and grandson Donald.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, of Lebanon; son Don and wife Patti Miller of Largo, Fla., daughter Rita and husband David McAdaragh of Cornelius; stepdaughter Cathy and husband Matt Thayer of Lebanon; stepson Greg and wife Sara Kimball of Lebanon; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Edwards Catholic Church.

The family requests memorial contributions be sent to the Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital or Samaritan Evergreen Hospice, in care of Huston-Jost Funeral Home, 86 W. Grant St., Lebanon, OR 97355.
