March 16, 1921 - March 21, 2009
Ruby Margaret (Wilkerson) Yung, 88, passed away March 21 peacefully after a short illness at Albany Samaritan Hospital surrounded by her friends and family.
Ruby, daughter of Archie and Mary Effie (Baker) Wilkerson, was born in Dallas. Her family lived in the Ash Valley area and Ruby's fondest memories during the Great Depression were of living in Gardner, Loon Lake and small-town life. She married Raleigh Yung in 1939 and lived in Salem, Independence and Valsetz before settling in North Albany in 1946. After 59 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1998.
To her grandchildren and every child who knew her, Ruby was the ultimate grandma. Her family was her life and their well being her utmost concern. She was a longtime member of North Albany Baptist Church. Ruby was also a lifetime member of the Willing Workers club that cares for the North Palestine Memorial Church. She was known as the cookie lady to many who benefited from her baking and support of local soup kitchens. In recent years, Ruby joined with other ladies on weekly shopping trips via Call-A-Ride. She has been friend and neighbor to many in the Albany area. She also loved gardening and the many flowers in her yard.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister Bessie Folliett; and son Robert Yung.
She is survived by her son Ronald Yung and wife Linda and grandson David Yung, all of Golden Valley, Ariz.; granddaughters Aleah Yung-Schutze and husband Maik Schutze of Alexandria, Va.; and Julie Vicenzi and husband Joe, and Gail Nelson and husband Tony, all of Albany; and five great-grandchildren.
"Grandma may be gone, but her love will never be forgotten."
At her request, no services are planned. Her final resting place is at North Palestine Cemetery in Albany.
