Jan. 22, 1964 - Jan. 19, 2008
Mona Eone (Schmid) Boggs went into the arms of the Lord on Jan. 19. She passed away at Lubbock, Texas, Hospitality Care Center.
Mona was an inspiration to all who knew her. She had a positive and uplifting attitude. Although she had cancer in both of her lungs and a brain tumor, she never spoke of death and dying. Instead, she talked about getting better, getting her own apartment and going back to her nursing job.
Mona was many things to many people. She was born in Corvallis, the daughter of Allen "Bud" Vernon II and Susan Katherine Briley Schmid.
She was the youngest of 13 children. Her brothers and their wives are: Sid Watson and Mary Lou of Caldwell, Idaho; Paul Watson of Cool, Calif.; Dick Schmid and Mary of Sherwood; Wayne Watson and Maureen of Queensbury, N.Y.; Anthony Soto and Karen of Bend; Donald Ray Soto and Samantha of Elma, Wash.; David Schmid and Peggy of Eugene; and Allen Schmid III of Springfield. Sisters and their husbands are: Charlotte Schaffner and Timothy of Albany; Debbie Springer and Jerry of Eugene; and Izetta Grossman and Gary of The Dalles.
Mona was mom to Ray Latialle Jr. of Albany; Misty Boggs of Lubbock, Texas; and Crystal White and husband Zack of Lovington, N.M. She was a grandmother to Angel White and Ryan White of Lovington, N.M. Her "grandbabies" were the light of her life.
She was an aunt to 34 nieces and nephews; six stepnieces and nephews; 25 great-nieces and nephews; four stepgreat-nieces and nephews; and nine great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was a cousin to many and a niece to many aunts and uncles.
She was also a friend to many people. She had a special friend and dance partner, Billy Bowles, of Sundance, Texas.
Mona attended Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis. She became a nurse in 1993, having attended school in Athan, Texas, for her degree. She and her mother, Susan, worked together at one time at Hill Top Haven, a nursing facility in Gunter, Texas. While in Oregon, Mona worked for Tim's Medical Express and Timberview Care Center. Before she became too ill to work, Mona loved working with special needs people as she did in Odessa, Texas.
Mona was preceded in death by her grandparents Allen I and Dorothy Schmid of Corvallis, and Paul and Julia Briley of Whitesboro, Texas; her parents, Allen "Bud" Schmid II in July of 1998, and Susan K. Briley Schmid in April 2004 in Corvallis; brother Danny Schmid in July 2003 in Springfield; nephew Sonny Schmid of Portland; nieces Joni Schmid of Salem and Rachel Soto of Albany; and great-great-nephew Michael Cordell.
Mona was so dedicated to nursing, she donated her body to Texas Technology for cancer research.
A memorial service for Mona was Jan. 22, on what would have been her 44th birthday. The service was at the Raintree Christian Church in Lubbock.
