June 5, 1947 - May 9, 2009
Jane Goenner, 61, went to be with her Lord Saturday after a courageous 19-month battle with cancer.
She was born in New York, N.Y., and lived there with her adoptive parents, Fred and Ruth Goenner, until she finished high school. At that time, her dad retired and the family moved to her other hometown, Vinton, Iowa.
She received degrees from Northern Iowa University and the University of Northern Colorado. Jane spent over 30 years in education, working with students with varying impairments, from learning disabilities to vision problems. She spent time in several states: Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana and Oregon, always moving westward. The last six years of her career were spent as the principal of the Oregon School for the Blind.
Jane's original adoptive family preceded her in death. She is survived by many friends across the country, a new "adopted family," and the staff, students and parents whose lives she touched and enriched.
At Jane's request, there will be no services. AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Jane's two favorite types of charities were those supporting children or animals. Anyone wishing to make a contribution in her name could consider one of those categories.
