Brett Roy Chytraus was welcomed home by Jesus Sunday. He was 47.

Brett was born in Fullerton, Calif. He was raised in Great Falls, Mont., and attended schools there and graduated from high school in 1979. He attended Montana State University, where he met his wife and received his bachelor's degree in history. He then went to Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland for his law degree.

Brett married Christy Ross on Aug. 18, 1984, in Billings. They moved to Albany, where he established his law practice with Weatherford Thompson.

He was an avid skier, mountain biker and hiker. He loved the outdoors and was a member of the National Ski Patrol for many years. He was the director of the Santiam Ski Patrol. He most recently was helping with his daughter's ski team. He enjoyed fly fishing and watching hockey on TV. He was a member of North Albany Community Church and the Oregon Bar Association.

He loved being a father and being with his family. He fought a courageous battle with scleroderma and successfully completed a stem cell transplant five years ago. He was an inspiration to many people throughout his adaptation and fortitude through his disease. He loved the Lord.

Brett is survived by wife Christy Chytraus, daughters Kaylie Chytraus and Kimi Chytraus, and son Logan Chytraus, all of Albany; mother and stepfather Kathy and Pieter DeJonge of Salt Lake City, Utah; father Robert Chytraus of Salt Lake City; and brother Chad Chytraus of Salt Lake City; and family and friends too numerous to name, who love him and will miss him very much.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Bible Fellowship.

Contributions may be made to Santiam Pass Ski Patrol in care of Fisher Funeral Home or to the Brett Chytraus Children's Education Fund at U.S. Bank.
