Betty Mozelle Linton Vogel, 73, passed away Saturday in Sweet Home.

She was born July 4, 1935, in Velma, Okla. Her family moved to Dale, Ill., where she graduated from McLeansboro High School in 1951. After attending business college in St. Louis, Mo., Betty lived with her family in Algiers, La. The surviving family moved to Baldwin Park, Calif., in 1955.

In California, while working at Aerojet, Betty met her future husband, Donald Arthur Vogel. The two married in June 1956. They moved to Sweet Home in the early '60s, where they had a small but successful cattle ranch on Wiley Creek Drive. There, Betty displayed her extensive skills at canning, baking and casseroles.

Their son, Robert Arthur Vogel, was born in 1965 and, soon after, they moved to Redlands, Calif., where they started a computer data processing company. They returned to their Oregon ranch in 1977.

During the '80s, Betty earned a Bachelor of Science in anthropology and a master's degree in archaeology from Oregon State University. She worked for several years as a curator for the Marion County Museum in Salem.

Betty's interests included gardening, watercolor painting, playing the piano and studying the history of the American West. She loved spending time with her close friends and family.
