Daniel Palmer Sweet, 61, of Lebanon died Feb. 16 at his home.
Dan was born in Prineville, the son of Norman and Marguerite (Maness) Sweet. He was raised in Prineville and graduated from Prineville High School in 1965. Dan went on to graduate from Western Oregon University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in education, and married Peggy Seuell on March 15 of that same year.
Dan and Peggy settled in Lebanon, where Dan began his teaching career at Lacomb School. He later taught at the Griggs School before receiving his master's degree in counseling in 1975. He worked at Seven Oak Middle School until 1993 when he moved to the district office to become the program consultant. He retired from the Lebanon School District in 1999, but continued working in retirement at Western Oregon University as a student teacher supervisor.
Dan enjoyed golfing, was a member of the Mallard Creek Golf Course and WOW Fitness center. He was an avid University of Oregon football fan. Dan also liked landscaping, yard work, working with electronics and computers, technology, digital photography, music and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy of Lebanon; daughters and sons-in-law Carrie and Craig Turner of Klamath Falls, and Vikki and Brian Staudinger of Bend; brothers Bill Sweet of Terrebonne, Dick Sweet of Seal Rock, and Glen Sweet of Lake Oswego; and grandchildren Cassidy Danielle and Ryan Robert Turner, and Georgia Rae Staudinger.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. March 7 at the Southside Church of Christ in Lebanon.
