Mignon Ufford, 95, died peacefully on Saturday.
She was in residence at Quail Run Assisted Living following the death of her husband, Marvin, last year.
Mignon spent her childhood and adult life as an active partner in the family farms. Her parents homesteaded in Cape Horn near Washougal, Wash., and then moved by train to farm in Tillamook. With the help of her sister, Phyllis, she cared for the rabbits and other animals on the farm and naturally became active in 4-H.
Mignon and Phyllis had a joint wedding in 1935. Mignon married Marvin and lived on the dairy farm of his dad until she graduated from Oregon State College in 1936. They then moved to Tillamook to farm with her parents. They purchased their own farm on Tennessee Road in Lebanon in 1941. They leased out the farm for nine years, moving back to Cape Horn to raise livestock, but returned to the more productive land in Lebanon in 1952.
Mignon was an active participant in the farming operation, feeding and caring for the livestock, milking cows and goats by hand and finally raising calves and heifers for the purebred Jersey operation. She helped feed the family with her gardening and food preservation. She took pride in her flower gardens and took up rock polishing as a hobby.
Mignon took an active role in the grange organizations in Washington and Oregon, serving as an officer numerous times. She also participated in the Tennessee Community Wives Club.
Mignon is survived by her sister, Phyllis; three children, Glen and wife Kay, Robert and wife Audrey, and Linda and husband Walt Keiter; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Waverly Cemetery in Albany.
