Catherine Julia Brocard, 78, of Sweet Home passed away Monday at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.

She was born in New Brunswick, N.J. to Edgar and Julia (Kresky) Dunn.

Catherine graduated from Metuchen High School in 1947. She lived in New Jersey until 1971 when they moved to Sweet Home.

She worked for Oliver Machinery Co. in New York then for Johnson & Johnson as a personal secretary to the executive in charge of the paper division. She married Joseph W. Brocard in 1951 and they built a house in Belle Mead, N.J., in 1957. She worked at the carrier clinic from 1967 to 1971. After moving to Sweet Home she worked for Willamette Industries until retiring in 1991.

Catherine loved gardening and taking care of the apple orchard. She also enjoyed genealogy and square dancing and was a member of the Home Orchard Society. She was a wonderful cook and everyone always enjoyed eating her apple pies.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Brocard; son Joe and wife Nancy Brocard of Sweet Home; daughter Karen and husband Rick Flickinger of Albany; and four granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Edgar Dunn; and sister Theresa VanZandt.

Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. A private burial will be at Gilliland Cemetery.
