The winners, one boy and one girl, will be announced Tuesday
Sixteen high school seniors, two each from eight schools, will compete again this year for the annual Linn County Junior First Citizen awards.
The candidates were nominated by their schools' staff. They are judged on their performance and experiences in areas like academics, church activities, athletics and volunteerism.
A five-member panel also conducts a three-minute interview with each candidate.
One male and one female will receive the award at the Albany Rotary Club Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Linn County Fair & Expo Center, 3700 Knox Butte Road.
The public is invited. Meals can be purchased in advance for $12.

Here are biographies of the candidates, appearing in alphabetical order by school:
CENTRAL LINN
Logan Smith, 17, has been active in sports, music groups and agriculture programs.
The son of Jon and Kim Smith of Brownsville, he's participated in baseball, wrestling and football in addition to being a Blue Notes Jazz Ensemble member for four years.
He has been a Jr. F.A.R.M.S. 4-H Club president for two years and has also been recognized at the Linn, Benton and Marion county fairs as a livestock showman.
In addition, Smith has won several awards from the Future Farmers of America and he's a member of the Texas Longhorn Breeders of Tomorrow.
He has substitute taught for his school's concert choir and he's attended Boys State.
He maintains a 3.4 GPA.
After graduation, Smith hopes to study music education and return to his school as a teacher.
Erica Lewis, 16, has been active in student government, school sports, Future Farmers of America and volunteer events.
She is the daughter of Rip and Leslie Lewis of Halsey.
Lewis has been an elected leader at her school for four years and is the current student body president.
She has also participated in Girls State and served on the Linn County Underage Drinking Youth Council and the Oregon Association of Student Councils.
She has also served as treasurer and reporter in the local FFA chapter.
Lewis has volunteered her time with the "Taking Steps to Find a Cure" fundraiser for cancer and other community service events.
She has also lettered in basketball, cross country and softball.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and maintains a 4.0 GPA.
After graduation, Lewis hopes to study human resources and marketing in southern California.
HARRISBURG
Kristine Grimes, 17, has been active in school sports programs, student government and church-related activities.
The daughter of Robert and Melanie Grimes of Harrisburg, she has participated in volleyball, basketball and track and field at her school, setting a school shot put record in 2007.
She has also been a student body president for three years.
Grimes is a National Honor Society member who is also a volunteer tutor for first-graders.
She maintains a 3.69 GPA.
Grimes attends Harrisburg Christian Church, where she's been active in many charity events, including missionary trips to Mexico.
After graduation, Grimes hopes to study accounting and business at a four-year school and eventually open a business of her own.
Dan Spangler, 18, has taken part in sports and several other school organizations, including Harrisburg's newspaper, for which he is the entertainment editor.
He is the son of Stuart and Cheryl Spangler of Harrisburg.
Spangler has been a varsity football starter for two years and a track and field MVP for two years.
Spangler has volunteered as a Link Crew leader, helping orient freshmen, and he's volunteered with the Youth Against Underage Drinking Committee and the school's homecoming and prom committees.
Spangler maintains a 3.70 GPA.
He attends Harrisburg Christian Church, where he plays guitar for the Youth Group Praise Band.
After graduation, Spangler hopes to attend a four-year university, possibly to study music.
LEBANON
Emily King, 17, has been active with the Keystone Club, the Boys & Girls Club of Lebanon, Girls State, Smart Moves and S.O.L.V.
She is the daughter of Jeff and Edda King of Lebanon.
King has participated in soccer and basketball at her school, receiving the scholar athlete award seven times. She maintains a 4.0 GPA.
She has volunteered with Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, Relay for Life and Safety Town camp and is a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Lebanon.
She said she'd like to attend a small private school in Oregon and then go to law school.
Colin McHill, has been active in football, music programs, student government and his school's news broadcast.
He is the son of Thomas and Eileen McHill of Lebanon.
McHill has lettered three times in football, has received the scholar athlete award and maintains a 3.69 GPA.
He plays guitar, bass guitar, piano and drums in multiple school and church groups. He has lettered all four years in his school's Jazz Band.
McHill has been elected to student government offices for three years and currently serves as student body president.
A member of the First United Methodist Church of Lebanon, McHill hopes to earn degrees in music technology and production and eventually produce music compositions for films.
SANTIAM
Keith Morreira, 17, has been active in sports, student government and several volunteer events and is the son of Kathleen and Ernest Morreira of Lyons.
Morreira has participated in baseball, wrestling and football at his school and has received the Tri-River Scholar Athlete award three times.
In 2007, he took fourth in his division at the state wrestling tournament.
Morreira has served in student government all four years and he's currently his senior class president.
He has also volunteered his time with S.T.A.R.S., the Ford Foundation and several charity events.
He is a National Honor Society member and maintains a 4.0 GPA.
Morreira attends Gates Community Church.
After graduation, he plans to attend the University of Oregon to study human services and business.
Kaytlyn Stinson, 17, has taken part in student government, high school athletics and community service events.
The daughter of Jim and Christina Stinson of Mill City, Stinson has participated in volleyball, softball and her school's dance team.
She's also taken part in the Ignite Leadership Program, Ford Family Foundation Leadership Program and Santiam High School Leadership.
She was her junior class president.
Stinson has also been recognized as a Scholar Athlete and a Distinguished Scholar.
She maintains a 4.0 GPA.
After graduation, she would like to attend the University of Oregon to study accounting and dance, with the goal of becoming an accountant.
SCIO
Garrett Lanz, 17, has been active in sports, agriculture programs and student government at his school and is the son of Al and Dona Lanz.
Lanz has played football, basketball and baseball throughout high school, earning multiple letters, and he's been recognized as a Tri-River scholar athlete.
He's been involved in Scio's agriculture program for three years and he's also the treasurer for his senior class.
Lanz maintains a 3.83 GPA.
After graduation he hopes to attend Linn-Benton Community College for two years before moving to the University of Oregon for a major in business.
Jana Schiely, 17, is a senior who's been active in 4-H, Future Farmers of America, volleyball and student government.
The daughter of Jamie Schiely of Scio, she has served as president and treasurer of the Scio FFA and president of the Upper Willamette District FFA. She's also been treasurer and vice president for her 4-H Club.
She is the volleyball captain at her school, where she's also served as class secretary for two years.
Schiely is a member of the National Honor Society and maintains a 3.61 GPA.
After graduation, she plans to attend Linn-Benton Community College for two years before transferring to Oregon State University to study communication and political science.
SOUTH ALBANY
Amy Trower, 17, has been an athlete all four years of high school while earning academic honors and participating in her school's leadership program.
She is the daughter of Andy and Candace Trower of Albany.
Trower has participated in volleyball, basketball and tennis throughout high school, earning several awards for her performance.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and a Trimester Achiever in English, math, drafting and American studies.
She maintains a 4.0 GPA and is also an Ignite X-team member.
Joshua Mowery, 17, has been active in Boy Scouts, school sports, music programs and Boys State.
The son of Daniel and Jeanette Mowery of Albany, Mowery has attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and held the positions of vice president and president in his seven years in the Boy Scouts.
He is a captain on the varsity soccer team and he plays varsity tennis, too.
He is also an alto saxophone player in his school's symphonic and jazz bands, receiving three letters.
Mowery has taken four years of German and he's a member of the National Honor Society with a 4.0 GPA.
He is a member of the Eastside Christian Church and hopes to study physics after high school and eventually pursue a doctoral degree in that discipline.
SWEET HOME
Paige Niemi, 17, has taken part in school sports and the Kiwanis Club and received numerous academic awards.
She is the daughter of Albert and Karen Niemi of Sweet Home.
Niemi has played on her school's basketball and softball teams and is captain of the varsity volleyball team.
She has volunteered with the Kiwanis Club at the Oregon Jamboree and the Mud Flat Races, and she volunteers with the Community Chapel nursery.
She's a member of National Honor Society and maintains a 4.0 GPA.
She's been a member of the school's leadership class for two years and serves on the Senior Class Board. She was also a princess on the 2007 Homecoming Court.
After graduation, she wants to pursue a degree in radiation technology and work at a local hospital.
Cody Turner, 18, has worked on multiple area business websites, served as a school math tutor and held down a job at the Safeway store in Sweet Home.
He is the son of Ron and Susan Turner of Sweet Home.
Turner currently serves as a student body officer and has earned awards for his performance in Accounting I and II .
Over the summer, he helped the Rio Theatre build its website.
He has taken computer courses through Linn-Benton Community College and has written more than 100 programs in Visual Basic.
He would like to pursue a master's degree in computer engineering and design from Oregon State University.
WEST ALBANY
Anna Anderson, 17, is a senior at West Albany High School who's been a leader in student government, a grassroots organizer and volunteer and an actress in Albany Civic Theater, and she's lettered twice in varsity water polo.
She is the daughter of Nancy Anderson and Graham Kislingbury of Albany.
Anderson has been her class president for two years and a member of the National Honor Society.
She maintains a 3.65 GPA.
She is founder and leader of the Peace on Earth Club at her school. She organized a fundraiser that generated $1,600 for Darfur refugees, and she helped install recycling bins inside the school and football stadium.
She has served on the Albany Human Relations Committee and volunteered with Fish food drives and the Helping Hands homeless shelter.
She is a member of the First Christian Church of Albany.
She has also participated in post-Katrina relief trips to New Orleans and Mississippi.
Anderson hopes to study at Portland State University and later volunteer with a service like the Peace Corps.
Jacob Mellander, 17, has volunteered with local law enforcement and firefighting agencies, participated in wrestling and cross country at his school and currently serves as President of the National Honor Society at West.
He is the son of Tim and Sandy Mellander of Albany.
Mellander is a corporal with the Linn County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, a volunteer firefighter for the Tangent Fire Department and a cadet for the Corvallis Police Department.
He attended Boys State this year and he's been in the leadership program at his school for four years.
He maintains a 3.90 GPA.
After graduation, he plans to earn an EMT/paramedic certification and continue to volunteer with the Tangent Fire Department. Eventually, he hopes to work for the Albany or Corvallis fire department while continuing to serve as a volunteer sheriff's deputy.
