Chambers

George and Dorothy "Elaine" (Saunders) Chambers celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 5.

Elaine and George were married in Albany after meeting as students at Oregon State College. They've spent their entire married life in Albany, much of it in North Albany, where they raised their children.

The Chamberses have three sons, Mark of Albany, Brad and wife Shirleen of Bend, and Nick of Culver; five grandsons, Jake and Pete Chambers, Aaron and Casey Rohrabache, and Ryan Anderson; one granddaughter, Desi Lacker; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Athena. Tami Law, the Chamberses' daughter, died in 1996.

George served as a Marine Corps officer during World War II, observed the communist transition in China immediately after the war and returned to active duty to serve in the Korean War.

He started a long career with New York Life Insurance Company in 1955 and was named insurance agent of the year in 1968.

Elaine served as parks and recreation director for the city of Albany following George's active military service. She worked for Pacific Bell Telephone during the early years of their marriage and later owned and operated Elaine's Antiques in Albany. Her oil paintings have been displayed at local galleries. Elaine continues to enjoy collecting antiques.

The couple's sons will join them later this month for a family celebration of their anniversary.

Powell

Cloyd and Jeannette (Baird) Powell of Lebanon celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 2 at a luncheon for family and friends.

They were married Aug. 5, 1948, at the Methodist Church in Lebanon. The couple has lived in Lebanon most of their married life, except for a short time in Albany.

Cloyd worked for Morse Bros. until starting his own logging business, West Slope Logging, with two of his sons. His hobbies are fishing, woodworking, gardening and camping.

Jeannette enjoys gardening crafts, camping and fishing.

They have three living sons, Jeff and wife Noelle of Linden, Calif., Dick and wife Joyce of Sweet Home, and Brian and wife Dea of Albany. Their son John is deceased.

They have seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Stein

George and Beverly Stein are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary today.

They were married in Las Vegas, Nev., in 1958.

They have three children, Debi Cook and Fradele Holley of Albany and Steven Stein of Tillamook; five grandchildren, Sarah, Tracy, Heather, Brandon and Rocky; and three great-granddaughters, Makayla, Victoria and Jalene.

The family gathered in Florence to celebrate the milestone.
