The Oregon Coast Aquarium is still looking for teenagers to join its youth volunteer team.
Enrollment is now open and the deadline has been extended until April 1 for the Saturday training sessions, which begins May 9 and run through June 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Volunteers learn about marine science and share their knowledge as aquarium interpreters.
Youth volunteers spend 24 hours in training. Successful completion of training is worth three transferable college credits from Oregon Coast Community College, and high school credit in some schools as well.
"Becoming a youth volunteer is a great way to learn more about marine life, share your knowledge and work with peers who have common interests," according to Tricia Ratliff, youth programs coordinator.
After completing the training, youth volunteers work with the public as interpreters, two 41/2-hour shifts a week during the summer, sharing their knowledge with guests.
For more information, visit the aquarium website at www.aquarium.org, call (541) 867-3474, Ext. 5312, or e-mail Ratliff at tricia.ratliff@aquarium.org.
