In a recent paper, Mr. Robert Waterhouse praised the French for their wonderful socialized medicine. He also mentioned how proud the French are of their shorter work day and longer vacations. He neglected to mention their high unemployment due to these generous employee benefits.
He might also remember that we are the oldest democracy in the world while the French are on their fifth republic. After our revolution, we peacefully assimilated the dissenters whereas the French rioted and slaughtered those who disagreed.
We are the technical leader of the world with many Nobel prize winners. I do not recall a single French winner.
The French are not a world leader in any area although they do enjoy a good reputation for their wine. Yes, the French assisted us in our own war of independence. They were amply repaid during two world wars.
We do have many problems and we will continue working through them. I doubt we will ever consider the French to be a glorious example.

There are at least 57 French Nobel prize winners, including Pierre and Marie Curie, who were honored for their work on radioactivity.
