Saturday evening, Feb. 25, the Sweet Home, Lebanon and Albany Seventh-day Adventist Women's Ministries hosted a "Fashion for Compassion" event in Lebanon.

"Fun with a Focus" was the evening's motto and while everyone had a wonderful time, the best part of the evening was the opportunity to lend a hand to someone special in our community. We were able to help a young woman start a wardrobe for her new job.

The evening began with dinner, music by Donald Cobbs, an ice breaker, a lot of fun door prizes and a presentation on Weekenders Clothing by Carla Claasen where she taught the women how to make the most of their wardrobes and provided clothes for the women to actually try on. Twenty percent of all sales that took place by March 9 will go to our benefactor, (a young woman from within our community - located through Lebanon's Pregnancy Alternative Center) along with cash donations so that she can build a wardrobe for her new job as she "begins again."

A big thank you to the Lebanon Seventh-day Adventist Church for allowing us the use of their facility and to everyone who helped prepare for and host the evening. A special thank you to Sonia Glover, hair dresser from Trendsetters in Sweet Home, for blessing ladies at the event with free trims and styles! If you are interested in helping in this ministry opportunity, contact Tawny Sportsman at 367-4485.

Mrs. B's

I am writing to tell you of an amazing experience the Lebanon Lions Club was treated to by Mrs. B's Crystal Quail Dining. Mrs. B's in Lebanon opened up at a special time for us to have our Murder Mystery Dinner. The service was impeccable along with meals that were prepared not only deliciously but artfully. If you want a special night out, I highly recommend Mrs. B's Crystal Quail in Lebanon. Outstanding! Kudos to one of Lebanon's best-kept secrets!

95th birthday

I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to the many people that made my 95th birthday so very special. Kim Hershon, Virginia Bell, especially the cooks and dining service aids for their hard work cooking and preparing the food, and everyone else that gave a helping hand.

A thanks goes to the AGH fan club. As I don't know all of you, your kind thoughts and words are really appreciated. The prayer shawl maker deserves a special thank you; the shawl is beautiful and the love shines through.

I send a heartfelt thank you to everyone.

Police Explorers

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank Tim, Sarah and the employees of Ciddici's Pizza for their assistance in our fundraising efforts for the Albany Police Explorer Post.

I would also like to thank the gracious members of the community who so selflessly ate pizza to their hearts' content to help us raise almost $1000 on the night of our pizza feed fundraiser on Feb. 21.

Efforts such as these will allow a number of youth to give back to the community with less of a financial burden on themselves and their families.

Again, thank you!

Ironman golf

The Ironman committee would like to thank all of our Ironman sponsors and the Golf Club of Oregon for hosting this charity event. We raised $10,000 for the Albany Boys & Girls Club and the Central Linn Summer Recreation program. This would not to possible without all the sponsors and the raffle prize donations.

The players feel it is their tournament since many of them have played for years and their participation really makes it work. We thank the Democrat-Herald for the publicity before and after the event.
