Jazz was alive and well May 16 at Lebanon High School when guest artist and clarinetist Michael Almich and his Club 7 band opened the 42nd Grant Johnson Memorial Concert with a rousing rendition of "Sweet Georgia Brown."

Closing with perfect clarinet solos of "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" and "Memories of You,"Michael brought an excited audience to its feet with a well-deserved standing ovation.

Thank you, Heidi Hooper and your Seven Oak Middle School band and Danielle Miller, director of Lebanon High School Jazz bands, for your great music.

Congratulations to high school junior Alyson Stewart, who will attend U of O summer band camp in Eugene on the Grant Johnson Memorial Music Scholarship.

Many thanks to Lebanon businesses and individuals for supporting this concert for 42 years.

Over the years, your help has made it possible for 84 outstanding music students to enrich their lives at summer band camps.
