By the time this presidential campaign is over, you can be sure of only one thing: You and everybody else will be sick of one word: “Change.” | Posted: Monday, September 15, 2008 12:00 am
Obama started this. And McCain has picked it up. Now they're both for change. Enough already!
Everybody knows that half the time something changes, it gets worse.
Every once in a while somebody still says, as though it was new, that the only thing constant is change. It's true enough, but why do we have to be reminded? Why does that reminder never change?
The main change that everybody is equally familiar with is getting one year older every year. And one of these days everybody is going to kick the bucket. Change indeed.
What the candidates want us to believe is that they will make things better. They are for not just any change. They are for improvement. So why not say so?
To be in favor of change is equivalent to being in favor of weather. Or of time. Or the Pacific Ocean. It means nothing, so cut it out. (hh)
