Digital switch on cable

According to several conversations with customer service at Comcast and a service rep who came to our house, your information in the article Feb. 11 ("Comcast switches some to digital") is slightly incorrect.

According to Comcast you are only allowed two free adapter boxes. The digital set top box is not free if you are already renting one. If you already rent a digital set top box you cannot get an additional one free.

If that is the case, additional adapter boxes over two are available for rent at $1.95 per month. They are not available for purchase, according to Comcast Customer Service. Your article implies otherwise.

But then I am not too surprised. I made four calls to customer service over the past two months and always were supplied different answers as to what I needed for the conversion.

One rep said that Comcast required the adapters for channel 32 to 71 because of a federal law. The current information being put out by the media is that if you are a cable customer you don't have to worry about anything. It will all be taken care of. Tain't necessarily so.

Ah, for the simpler days.

Our police did the job

After reading last night's front cover story (Feb. 12) off the apprehended robbery suspect, I was moved to say thank you.

Although the feeling of firing a shot into a suspect must be overwhelming to deal with, I want to say thank you to the officer. He along with all his brotherhood and sisterhood in my opinion did an outstanding job for every law-abiding citizen in Albany.

Job well done, and please keep up the good work.

Crime stoppers at work

Thank you to the Albany Police Department and the Linn County Sheriff's Office for their hard work in the recent Albany shooting case, and kudos to Detective Fairall and all the other officers and deputies for bringing this person's awful crimes in Albany to an end. So thank you.

Habitat for Humanity helps one family at a time. In Lebanon, there are several families who now live in their own homes and are able to raise their families with more stability. We can all help Habitat and have fun at the 11th Annual Chili Cook-Off on Friday, March 6, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Lebanon Mennonite Church, 2100 S. Second St. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children.

There will be live music, a silent auction and a chance to vote for your favorite chili.
