Pepper Tree sign
I want to thank all of the customers and merchants who have shown their support during this crisis of the theft of my sign warning customers of my cranky nature. Many have offered their condolences. I've said yeah, right. Many have offered to take the culprits out themselves. I've asked … where?
Bob Ramsey of A-Plus Auto Glass, on his own, made a replacement sign, and Foress Sign Company called and offered to make one also. I find the coming together of our community for this dire situation very touching.
To the gentlemen who took down the beloved sign, all I can say is that we know who you are, and we've traced your ransom letter to a small town in Oregon
Know that we will find you, and remember, I own a very large large meat grinder.

Albany Christian School
The children and staff of Albany Christian School would like to express their most sincere thanks to the group of outstanding individuals who came to visit us on July 23.
The children enjoyed cars, trucks and other gear from the Oregon National Guard, state police and fire department. A big thank you to Maj. Chris Reese from the Oregon National Guard for organizing this event. Others involved were Joseph Bradford, Janile King and Richelle McCarl (Oregon National Guard), Vonn Schleicher (Oregon State Police), Chris LaBelle, Gary Eaton, Dave Barringer (Engine 12, Albany Fire Department).

ACT, Habitat for Humanity
We want to thank Johanna Spencer, the director, and the entire cast and crew at ACT Theater for the wonderful performance of "Nickel and Dimed" on July 17. The proceeds from the first night's performance benefited Albany Area Habitat for Humanity. We also want to thank all of you who purchased tickets for this special performance to support Habitat for Humanity.
Proceeds from the event went directly to the completion of the first home on Howard Street, which will be occupied by the Arrellano family and the launching of the second home at that site for the Mendoza family.
We will raise the walls of the second home on Saturday, Sept. 16. We invite everyone to join us on that amazing day when we begin with a foundation end the day with walls up and have the shape of the Mendoza family's future home.
It takes the community working together for Habitat to accomplish the mission of building decent, safe, affordable homes for families who live in substandard housing. The book and play "Nickel and Dimed" bring to light the plight of the minimum and below wages earned by members of our community and the desperate fight to survive while trying to live their lives. The common thread between the main character's role in this play and Habitat for Humanity is a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of those in need of simple, decent homes.

Linn Benton Food Share
Linn Benton Food Share would like to extend our gratitude to the employees of Samaritan Health Services that participated in their annual food drive. Through their superb effort, over 26,000 pounds of high-quality, nutritious foods will be available at food pantries and emergency soup kitchens for those in need.
This food drive comes at an especially crucial time. Households across the country continue to see basic food prices rise and are hard-put to make ends meet. This situation is even more difficult for low-income households already stretched to the breaking point.
Samaritan Health Service employees provide a bright illustration of neighbor caring for neighbor and how simple gestures, taken collectively, can have a real impact on the health of our community.

Women for Ag
On behalf of Linn Benton Women For Agriculture I would like to thank the Linn County Fair for their continuous support for Oregon agriculture.
Every year our organization is allowed a booth in the Willamette Hall. It is an opportunity to educate the attendees about the value of agriculture economically, environmentally and more.
We always appreciate the workers at the fair. They are positive and helpful in every area.
Personally, spending time at the fair is wonderful! To see the young people in 4-H and FFA competing with their animals and other projects is the main reason my husband and I attend. Young people in these programs learn so much and they demonstrate their knowledge at the fair. We are always impressed by their behavior and work ethics.
Thank you for all who are involved with the Fair! Your effort and commitment makes a difference in people of all ages throughout Linn County and the state of Oregon! Job well done.
Shireen Malpass, Corresponding Secretary, Linn Benton Women For Ag

Pink fundraiser
On behalf of the Samaritan Albany Cancer Resource Center, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in the 2008 Tough Enough to Wear Pink fundraiser at Linn County Fair last Friday. One dollar was donated for each fairgoer who wore pink on Friday. Thank you to the community for attending and showing your support for raising money for local cancer support and to the many volunteers who helped with the fundraiser and the Oncology on Canvas art show.
Over $14,000 was raised through the sale of pink items, fair attendees sporting pink and the bull bash, where rodeo cowboys wore pink to raise money for cancer. While the entire community came together to make this event happen, I would like to extend a special thanks to Linn County Fair and Expo Center, Northwest Community Credit Union, Coastal Farm and Ranch, National Pro Rodeo Association, Fisher Funeral Home, KRKT Radio and Albany Democrat-Herald for your donations and support.
The funds raised will go towards the Resource Center's programs, offered to anyone touched by cancer, to provide the support they need to live with strength, determination and hope into the future.
