Rescued from a coma (July 16)

Last night (July 13) at Monteith Riverpark my mother was enjoying the "Cheeseburgers" concert. As a diabetic, she is usually very careful about taking the right amount of insulin and eating the right foods. Distracted by the festivities she didn't eat enough to counteract the insulin she injected. By the end of the concert she was in crisis and lay back on the concrete seat to "rest," slipping into a low blood sugar coma. Someone noticed and called for help. I would like to thank this unknown hero. In this day and age of apathy, when most people would assume she was a drunk and just sleeping it off, someone cared enough to get involved and call 911. She was also suffering from early stages of hypothermia.

When the EMTs arrived and discovered she was in low blood sugar crisis with a reading of 30, they stabilized her and then called me. They are very professional, and I just want to say a public thanks. Without the help of the person who alerted them and the quick actions of these guys, we may be having a much different day today.

We're all in this life together and how we treat each other shows our humanity and reflects, in my opinion, our connection with our creator. Thanks again to all who helped.
