KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Oregon State baseball team scored eight runs in the ninth for a 14-4 rout of Tennessee at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Saturday.

Ryan Ortiz was 3-for-6 and Stefen Romero had his first career home run and had three RBIs for the Beavers, who had 13 hits.

Joey Wong finished with two hits for the second straight game.

The Beavers trailed 3-0 through the fourth inning before coming together at the plate and outscoring Tennessee 14-1 the rest of the way, with at least one run in each of the last five innings.

"This was a very good offensive day," coach Pat Casey said. "The runs came late, but they came, and supported good outings from Tyler (Waldron) and Jorge (Reyes)."

Waldron started the game and went five innings, allowing six hits and three runs in his first Oregon State start. He did not get the decision, however. That went to Reyes, who came on in the sixth and proceeded to go three innings, scattering four hits and a run. He struck out three.

Romero got the Beavers (1-1) on the board in the fifth with his home run off Tennessee (1-1) starter Bryan Morgado.

The Beavers tied the game in the sixth. Romero drove a pitch down to right field, scoring Ortiz and Adalberto Santos with two outs.

Brett Casey gave the Beavers the lead for good in the eighth. He singled home John Wallace, who had walked to start the inning and then stole second base. Two batters later, Casey scored when John Tommasini singled to center.

The Beavers gave themselves eight more insurance runs in the ninth on the strength of three hits and two Tennessee errors.

Today's series finale starts at 9 a.m., with Greg Peavey making his first start of the season for the Beavers.
