LINCOLN, Neb. - Senior Heinrich Barnes (Pretoria, South Africa) won two matches Friday as Oregon State split a pair of contests with No. 6 Nebraska and Augustana, the No. 14 team at the Division II level.
The Beavers fell to Nebraska 34-8, while picking up a 40-3 win over Augustana.
Also winning for the Beavers against Nebraska was redshirt freshman Kelly Kubec (Lake Stevens, Wash.), who recorded a 7-2 decision over Matt Vacanti at 133 pounds. Kubec also tallied a near fall right before time expired.
Against Augustana, Barnes, sophomore Jon Brascetta and redshirt freshman Clayton Jack all tallied pins for Oregon State.
Barnes and Brascetta cruised to quick falls at 149 and 157 pounds. Barnes scored a pair of quick points on No. 6 Mike Long on a takedown before a two-point near fall en route to a 2:03 fall. Brascetta let Brandon Kruger score a pair of points on escapes but eventually pinned him in 2:39.
Four other Beaver wrestlers scored bonus points on major decisions.

Beavers swept
CORVALLIS - Senior Ashley Evans had 20 digs to lead the Beaver offense, but the Oregon State volleyball team fell to No. 2 Stanford in three in the team's last match of the 2008 season.
Set scores were 28-26, 25-18, 25-195.
Junior Rachel Rourke led all hitters with 18 kills, while sophomore Jill Sawatzky added 11. Junior Bree Knitter added to the Beaver defense with four blocks.
Oregon State finishes its season with a 14-17, 3-15 Pac-10 record, while Stanford now is 26-3, 17-1 Pac-10.
Oregon tops Cal
EUGENE - The No. 8 University of Oregon volleyball team capped the regular season in fitting style with a 3-1 win over No. 7 California on Senior Night at McArthur Court.
No. 8 UO (23-8, 11-7) won by a 25-20, 25-27, 25-17, 26-24 score over No. 7 California (23-6, 13-5) to post its best overall record since the Ducks went 24-8 in 1983, while UO's league mark was its best since 1987 (11-7).
UO's win vs. California was its second the last five matches in the series and the the earlier one in 2006's second meeting ended a 15-match Cal win streak that dated back to 1998.
Senior Gorana Maricic ended Friday evening with a match-high 20 kills - the 21st match she's paced the team this season. She also led the team in hitting (.304) for the sixth time this year and topped ..300 for the 12th time this campaign.
Fellow senior Katie Swoboda also notched a team high in digs (22) for the 27th time this year, and her per-set average (5.50) topped her season average (5.06) that ranked first in the Pac-10 and 22nd nationally this week.
