Oregon State was shut out in its final game at the DeMarini Invitational Sunday, losing 11-0 to No. 9 Arizona State at Tempe, Ariz.
The Sun Devils (3-0) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning, and were up 10-0 after three. Arizona State capitalized on four Oregon State errors, including two in a first inning that saw 11 Sun Devils come to the plate.
Oregon State managed six hits against three Arizona State pitchers. Brett Casey had the team's only extra base hit of the game, doubling to right center in the fifth. Jordan Lennerton was 2-for-3 with a walk.
Seth Blair picked up his first win of the season after working four scoreless innings for the Sun Devils.
Greg Peavey made his first collegiate appearance for the Beavers, getting the start. The Vancouver, Wash., native did not make it out of the first inning, facing nine batters. He allowed four hits and seven runs - just four of which were earned - and recorded one out. He was replaced by fellow freshman Josh Osich after throwing 30 pitches.
Osich, also in his first career appearance, worked 21/3 innings of relief, scattering three runs and three hits while striking out two and walking four.
The Beavers used six pitchers in the game, with Josh Keller, Kraig Sitton, James Nygren and Kevin Rhoderick joining Peavey and Osich on the hill.
Nygren and Rhoderick both made their collegiate debuts while Keller saw his first action of the season.
Oregon State (1-2) takes the next four days off from competition before heading to Portland to play Georgia in the Papé Grand Slam beginning Friday. The game, scheduled to start at 6 p.m. will be held at PGE Park, home of the Pacific Coast League's Portland Beavers.
