Two verbal commitments were made this week to the Oregon State football team by Micheal Beaton and Cody Vaz, after they attended a recent camp with the Beavers.

Beaton is a 6-foot-2, 284-pound offensive guard from Dallas High who runs the 40-yard dash in 5.36 seconds. He's a Scout.com two-star athlete, and was 5A second-team all-state as a junior.

The Beavers have been watching him since his sophomore season, so when Beaton was offered a scholarship he quickly accepted.

Vaz, a pro-style quarterback from St. Mary's High of Stockton, Calif., is a 6-2, 200-pounder who runs the 40 in 4.98 seconds. Rivals.com rates him as a three-star athlete.

He led his team to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section finals last season, and completed 215 of 332 passes for 3,265 yards and 32 touchdowns. Vaz was second-team all-NorCal and underclassmen first-team all-state.

That brings the OSU known commitment list to four. The other two are offensive lineman John Braun of West Albany and linebacker Rueben Robinson of Hamilton High in Chandler, Ariz.

The Beavers are expected to sign between 20-25 this class. They need about 20, but usually recruit more than they need just in case they lose people for whatever reason.

Macy leaves

Strength and conditioning coach Jeff Macy left OSU to work for the Milwaukee Bucks, the NBA team announced.

It was a surprise move since Macy played a big role in designing the new sports performance center. He was with the Beavers for two years. He was an assistant strength coach with the Chicago Bulls from 2001-06.
