Laura Hirsh helped lead the University of Puget Sound Loggers to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III regional played in Decorah, Iowa, last weekend.
Puget Sound lost to Washington University of St. Louis on Saturday, 57-48. Co-champions of the Northwest Conference, the Loggers finished 24-7 overall.
A 2004 Crescent Valley High graduate, Hirsh led Puget Sound in scoring for the season and at the regional. She had 10 points in the Loggers' victory over second-ranked Howard Payne University of Brownwood, Texas, on Friday, then had 16 against Washington.
The weekend before, the junior point guard had 18 points in a victory over No. 11 McMurray University of Abilene, Texas, and 11 in a win over No. 24 George Fox.
Hirsh was a first-team all-Northwest Conference pick after leading the Loggers in scoring and assists and being the second leading rebounder.

Northwest Christian College freshman guard Jenneca Crocker was scoreless in three minutes during the Beacons' 76-72 overtime loss to Marygrove in the third-place game of the USCAA National Championship tournament in Broken Arrow, Okla.
Crocker, a 2006 Philomath High graduate, played in all 27 games for the Beacons (16-11), who had their best season in school history and finished fourth at the USCAA tournament for the second straight year.

Daniel Hinchberger improved to 3-2 for Lander University on Sunday, pitching 52/3 innings as the Bearcats defeated Augusta State 10-8 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Hinchberger, a Philomath High graduate, struck out four, scattered nine hits and allowed five earned runs.
