Mid-valley shooters fare well in biathlon

Several competitors from the mid-valley who competed in the summer biathlon Sunday at the Albany Pistol and Rifle Club came away with the medals.

The competition was part of the State Games of Oregon.

In the men's 21-29 division, Steve Folin of Albany finished with a time of 31 minutes, 50 seconds to win gold.

In the men's 30-39 division, Aaron Davis of Albany won gold with a time of 26:53. Jesse Droesch of Albany took silver in 30:31.

In the men's 40-49 division, Greg Soriano of Corvallis took silver with a time of 37:11. He narrowly edged Tim Fiez, also of Corvallis, who finished in 37:15 to take the bronze.

In the women's 40-49 division, Albany resident Dawn Hietala took gold with a time of 31:15.

Lebanon to host youth soccer camps

Lebanon high school will host three camps for young soccer players in August.

A camp for boys and girls in grades 7-12 will be held Aug. 4-7. Sessions will run daily from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

OSU coach Dana Taylor will lead instruction the first two days. The fee is $45 and includes a ball and shirt

A camp for kindergarten through grade 8 will be held Aug. 11-14, with sessions going from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This camp will be led by the Lebanon boys soccer program. The fee is $35.

A high school players camp will be held Aug. 11-14 from 7:30 to 9 each day. Daily doubles start Aug. 18.

Santiam Christian to host soccer camp

Santiam Christian's girls soccer program is hosting a high school soccer camp Aug. 11-15.

Sessions will be held daily from 9 to 11 a.m. at the LBCC soccer fields.

The cost is $45 and the camp is open to all high school girls.

Central Linn hires coaches

Central Linn High School has announced the hiring of two new varsity coaches.

Richard Hillsman, a 1995 Central Linn grad, is the school's new football coach.

Hillsman, 31, has coached the Central Linn junior high football program for the past five years. He replaces Jim Keizur, who led the Cobras to a 6-6 record and a 2A state playoff berth last season.

Kayla Johnson has been hired as the girls basketball coach.

Johnson, 21, was the 2A state player of the year in 2005 at Weston-McEwen High School. She has been working with the future Spartans program in Corvallis.

Johnson follows Jeff Kaiser, who led Central Linn to a 13-13 mark last season.

Holes-in-one

Albany resident Sandy Eggers hit a hole-in-one Tuesday at Spring Hill Country Club. The ace was struck on the 108-yard 17th hole with a 9-iron.

This is her third hole-in-one in 25 years of golfing.

The shot was witnessed by Sharlan Colson of Lebanon, and by Joan Arens and Jo Stettler, both of Corvallis.

The ace, her first in 40 years of golfing, was hit on the 108-yard 17th hole.

The shot was witnessed by Bud Dearing of Albany.
