Here is a rundown of Friday and Saturday's mid-valley varsity football games. All games begin at 7 p.m. unless noted.
Friday's games
Pendleton at Lebanon
Records: Pendleton 0-1,
0-0 Intermountain Conference; Lebanon 1-0, 0-0 Mid-Willamette
The Lebanon competition improves several notches following a 56-8 win against Parkrose.
Pendleton lost 30-15 at home to Lewiston, Idaho.
West Albany
at Jefferson (Portland)
Records: West Albany 1-0, 0-0 Mid-Willamette Conference; Jefferson 1-0, 0-0 Portland Interscholastic League
The Bulldogs will get another good test after getting past Sherwood.
Jefferson is coming off a 36-28 overtime win against former PIL rival Grant, now a 6A school.
Thurston at South Albany
Records: Thurston 1-0, 0-0 Midwestern League; South Albany 1-0, 0-0 Mid-Willamette
The Rebels are charged with trying to slow down Thurston. The Colts defeated Corvallis 60-13 in zero week.
South senior running back Jesse Duke is on his way to another big year after 181 yards in a win against Liberty.
Estacada at Sweet Home
Records: Estacada 0-1, 0-0 Capital Conference; Sweet Home 0-1, 0-0 ValCo League.
Spirits should be high in Sweet Home after playing two-time state runner-up Sisters tight on the road last week before falling 21-18.
These two teams have split the last two meeting, including Estacada's 21-14 overtime home win in 2007.
Last week, Estacada lost 21-7 at Banks.
Mt. Douglas, B.C.
at Harrisburg
Records: Harrisburg 0-1, 0-0 PacWest Conference
Mt. Douglas, located near Victoria, has an enrollment of 1,150 students and is playing its first game of the season.
Steve Nash of the NBA's Phoenix Suns and singer Nelly Furtado attended Mt. Douglas.
Harrisburg lost 27-0 at Knappa last week.
Kennedy at Santiam Christian
Records: Kennedy 1-0, 0-0 Tri-River Conference; Santiam Christian 0-1, 0-0 PacWest Conference
Santiam Christian will try to bounce back from a 14-7 loss to Rainier last week.
Kennedy, a 2A state playoff team in 2007, defeated 2A state runner-up Heppner on the road last week.
SC won last year's game 27-12 in Mt. Angel.
Monroe at Scio
Records: Monroe 0-0, 0-0 Mountain View Conference (2007: 6-3, 4-3); Scio 0-0, 0-1 Tri-River
Scio opened the season with a 36-22 loss at Oakridge.
The Loggers don't open league play until Oct. 3, at Santiam.
Irrigon at Central Linn
Records: Irrigon 0-0, 0-0 Blue Mountain Conference (2007: 1-6, 1-8); Central Linn 1-0, 0-0 Mountain View
Central Linn defeated Irrigon 32-6 on the road in 2007.
The Cobras won 8-6 at Reedsport last week.
Saturday's game
Jefferson vs. Pilot Rock
at The Dalles
Time: 1 p.m.
Records: Jefferson 0-1, 0-0 PacWest; Pilot Rock 0-0, 0-0 Blue Mountain (2007: 7-3,
5-2)
The Lions play a rare neutral site game, with both schools traveling nearly the same distance.
Jefferson's trip will be 145 miles and Pilot Rock's 138.
Pilot Rock reached the 2A quarterfinals last year.
