West Albany 12, Lebanon 1

West Albany defeated visiting Lebanon, 12-1, on Tuesday giving the Bulldogs their sixth victory Mid-Willameette Conference baseball action.

Nathan Boone earned the win for West, allowing only one hit in four innings of work.

"We were not sure what we were getting ourselves into today because Lebanon has been a bit inconsistent so far," said West Albany head coach Don Lien. "I told our guys to just focus on ourselves."

Lien was especially impressed with his batters ability to work the count early in the game, forcing the Lebanon pitchers into difficult situations.

West (7-3-1, 6-1 MWC) will play again today at Lebanon (5-2 MWC).

South Albany 7, Silverton 0

South Albany won its first league game in strong fashion with a shutout of Silverton.

Justin Robbins went the distance, giving up only four hits.

"Justin threw well, better than he'd thrown in awhile," said coach Chad Angel. "We swung the bat well, and had good defense."

Kyler Gulaskey was 2 for 3 with a double and triple, and Josh Heckman was 2 for 4.

South Albany (3-8, 1-6) is at Silverton today.

Trevor Summerlin had two doubles and drove in two runs as the Loggers defeated the Crusaders in Special District 2 action.

Softball

West Albany 8, Lebanon 4

Jean Stevens clubbed two home runs to lead West Albany past Lebanon.

Stevens was 2 for 2, with three RBI and three runs scored.

"The girls came out really strong scoring six runs in the first two innings," said coach Rocky Erner. "Legee is one of the top pitchers in the league, and I'm proud of how we did against her."

Kristen Warner struck out 12 to pick up the victory, and Kiara Vasquez was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

West Albany (8-3, 7-0) hosts Lebanon today.

SC shares victory

Santiam Christian and Salem Academy both accumulated team scores of 356, tying for first at the Special District 2 tournament at Spring Hill Country Club.

Lyle Gibbs of East Linn Christian shot the top overall score with a 76. Santiam Christian golfers Erik Hellesto and David Nigro finished third and fifth respectively.

Santiam Christian also played at the Bandon Dunes Invitational on Monday and finished in fourth place.

Sweet Home ties for second

Travis Ramoz shot an 81 Tuesday at a Val-Co League tournament at the Agate Beach Golf Course to lead the Huskies to a tie for second place.

Sweet Home will play another Val-Co League tournament next Wednesday at mallard Creek.
