South Albany out-hit Springfield 10-8, but two errors hurt the Rebels in a 5-2 loss on the Millers' baseball diamond.

All of South Albany's hits were singles.

The Rebels (0-1) host Willamette today.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, first baseman Nick Irving belted a solo shot to get the Bulldogs on the board, but they would still fall to visiting West Salem.

West Albany (0-2) will open league play with a three-game series against Lebanon next week, starting with Tuesday's game in Albany.

The Huskies managed to score five runs on only two hits in a sloppy early-season game.

Sweet Home scored three runs in the first inning, but couldn't hold the lead as Elmira scored in all but one inning.

Kylee Hancock salvaged some pride for the Bulldogs as she broke up a no-hitter in the fifth inning before the game was called by the 10-run rule.

"We had a tough time with walks more than anything tonight," said Bulldogs coach Rocky Erner of his team, which surrendered 12 walks and committed three errors.

"Preseason is really just a time to see what you have out there. I haven't got my starting lineup set yet, but I feel that we will be really sound defensively this year."

West Albany (0-1-1) will play at McNary on Friday before starting Mid-Willamette play on Monday at Lebanon.

Four Warriors hit for extra bases in their season debut as they registered their first win of the season at the expense of the Colts.

Hannah Suing had a triple and Rose Ragsdale, Nicole Springer and Alex Mclean got doubles. Danielle Legee got the win.

Lebanon (1-0) hosts Wilsonville today.

Sweet Home 8, Mollala 6

Tasha Saunders struck out eight Mollala batters in four innings before fellow freshman Bayli Riggs closed the door for the save and the Sweet Home victory.

Riggs also added a double, single and two RBIs at the plate for the Huskies.

"This was a game with two young teams. We started six freshman and they had four," said Huskies coach Steve Hummer of the game that included 11 combined errors.

"We're still not where we need to be at the plate; adjusting to varsity pitching. We won tonight but learned a lot too."

Sweet Home (2-0) will play at North Marion tonight before hosting a doubleheader versus Junction City on Saturday.

Ashley Guenther struck out 10 Gaston batters while her catcher, freshman Mariah McDaniel, picked off two runners at third base.

McDaniel and her cousin, Amber McDaniel, each tallied a double. Amber McDaniel drove in two runs on her fifth-inning gapper.

"The whole team looked good even though we had a couple of starters that have never thrown, hit or played a game in their life," said Scio coach Jamie McDaniel.

Scio (1-0) will host Salem Academy on Tuesday.

The Eagles came out swinging hard as they cruised to victory over the Cobras in five innings.

Corrie Bellamy had four hits in four at-bats and drove in five runs for the Eagles.
