CORVALLIS - Hannah Doran scored 14 first-half points to help the Crescent Valley High girls basketball to a within a point of Jefferson at the half on Saturday.
But the top-ranked Democrats used six 3-pointers and a 23-3 run in the third quarter to pull away and capture the championship of the Craig Ellingson Classic over the host Raiders.
Jefferson led 37-36 at the half but outscored CV 48-20 in the second half for an 85-56 win.
The Democrats hit six 3-pointers in the second half while Crescent Valley struggled to hit from the outside.
Doran finished with 21 points while Molly Doran added 11 for the Raiders (1-2).
Sophomore Krystal Forthan, a 6-foot-4 post, scored 31 points. She had 15 in the first half and 16 in the second. Ariel Reynolds added 20 points in the win.
Crescent Valley is at No. 2 Willamette on Tuesday.

MOLALLA - The Warriors struggled on defense in the nonconference loss.
PHS (1-3) trailed 31-14 at the half and could not recover.
"Defensively it just wasn't our night," PHS coach Amy Leonard said. "We had a hard time stopping (Amanda) Luna. She got to the free-throw line and kept driving the lane. We've got to be able to shut her down."
Cassandra Noble had 14 points and 15 rebounds and the Warriors finished with 45 rebounds.
"But we just couldn't seem to connect with the baskets," Leonard said.
Philomath travels to Gladstone on Wednesday.

ADAIR VILLAGE - The Eagles took control early and pulled away for the nonconference win.
Santiam Christian (3-0) took a 19-7 lead in the first and led 34-15 at the half.
"They played four strong quarters of basketball," SC coach Melissa McLain said.
The Eagles had good ball movement and finished with 23 assists.
"There was a lot of unselfish plays on fastbreaks," McLain said.
The Eagles host Willamina on Tuesday.

PORTLAND - The Crescent Valley High boys basketball team blew open a close game with a 40-16 run in the second and third quarters en route to a 63-43 nonconference win over Parkrose.
CV coach Mike Stair said the Raiders (2-0) were aggressive in taking the ball to the basket, resulting in either a score or free throws.
"The kids were pretty aggressive driving the ball," Stair said.
CV trailed 13-12 after the first quarter, but outscored Parkrose 22-6 in the second and 18-10 in the third.
The Raiders shot over 50 percent from the field and hit 26 of 35 free throws. They pressured Parkrose on defense, forcing 18 turnovers.
"That forced some easy opportunities for us," Stair said.
CV plays at McKay on Tuesday.

ADAIR VILLAGE - David Nigro scored the go-ahead basket and Cory DeKruyf blocked a final shot as the Eagles took the nonconference win at the Santiam Christian Invitational.
The teams are tied in the 3A rankings at No. 3.
SC coach Ron Sisler said the game had a playoff atmosphere.
"Nobody got more than a three-point lead in the game," Sisler said. It was back and forth, back and forth.
"We did a great job down the stretch defensively."
SC plays at Sheridan on Wednesday.

JEFFERSON - A 3-point basket with less than a second to go gave Pilot Rock the win in the championship game of the Jefferson tip-off tournament.
Jake Yoakum hit a 3-pointer to put Jefferson (1-2) up 38-37 with eight seconds left, but Pilot Rock got the game-winning shot off just before the buzzer.
Max Londberg had 14 points and Yoakum added 12 for the Lions, who play at North Douglas on Tuesday.

SPRINGFIELD - The Crescent Valley High wrestling team finished second at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday.
Hermiston won the tournament title.
Christian Strahl took first at 119 pounds for CV and Marty Langager was second at 215.
"It's a good gauge," CV coach Brendan Courtot said. "It shows us how we've improved since last year and shows us where want to be as a team in the future."
Tyler Burkum (112), Brian Tostberg (152), Kyle Gardner (171) and Dan Schlecther (189) all finished third for the Raiders.
