Santiam Christian High football coach Steve Woods believes his team clinched a playoff berth with a 29-6 PacWest Conference victory at Jefferson on Friday night.
The Eagles (6-2, 4-1) expect to play for the second or third seed next week at Creswell.
Michael Norlander and Keith Peterson combined for 76 rushing yards against Jefferson (1-7, 0-4). Norlander had two rushing touchdowns and Peterson one.
Korey Alexander and Ryan Hansen added 68 more rushing yards.
Norlander scored another touchdown on a 12-yard pass from Demetri Howerton. He had four catches for 19 yards. Howerton was 9-for-16 for 140 yards.
"We started fine, but the sloppy field got to us in the second half," Woods said. "We executed well in the first half. Defensively, we played as strong defense as we have this season."
Derek Howerton had one interception, while Tony Zolla and Norlander both led the team with nine tackles.
Wes Linhart scored the only points for Jefferson (1-7, 0-4) on a 38-yard interception return in the third quarter.
Santiam Christian (6-2, 4-1 PacWest) plays at Creswell next week. Jefferson (1-7,
0-4) plays at Waldport.
