Bulldog-Rebel Golf Classic Oct. 9 at Spring Hill CC

Albany Democrat-Herald

State budget reductions have continued to chip away at athletics and activities budgets at South Albany and West Albany high schools.

The Bulldog-Rebel Golf Classic will be held for the seventh year on Friday, Oct. 9 at Spring Hill Country Club as the schools try to fill a deficit of $56,000.

The local budget cuts were made after the state budget shortfall was announced this past spring.

It is the goal of both schools' booster clubs to support all extracurricular activities, which school officials believe are vital in keeping students connected to school. Simply, more money is needed to provide these opportunities for all students to offset state budget reductions.

Registration for the tournament is from 8 to 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9. The cost is $100 per player or $400 for a team of four and includes lunch.

Registration forms can be picked up at both schools.

Community members and businesses can help by sponsoring holes at $500 (gold), $250 (silver) or $100 (bronze). All sponsors will have signs up on the golf course. In addition, gold sponsors will be announced at all varsity contests throughout the school year.

Donated prizes will be auctioned off. Tax-deductible donations can be made through the Albany Schools Foundation.

For more information, contact Susie Orsborn or Brent Belveal at West Albany at 967-4545 or Chris Equino or Steve Pensigner at South Albany at South Albany at 967-4522.
