Final state berths decided at Mid-Willamette meet

The final berths at the 5A state track and field meet from the Mid-Willamette Conference were decided Thursday at South Albany High School.

Two events, the girls triple jump and pole vault, had to be delayed becau

se of the extremely inclement weather Wednesday at Western Oregon University.

Silverton's Sasha Ousterhout won the pole vault at 9 feet, 6 inches and Carli Donoghue of Crescent Valley claimed the other state berth with a mark of 9-0.

ort was by West Albany's Lisa Nelson, who tied for fifth at a height of 8-6. Teammate Briannon Lepman placed seventh at the same height.

West Albany clinched its first outright Mid-Willamette Conference championship with a 21-0 victory over visiting Woodburn.

Catcher Cody Ruthruff and Bussard each went 3 for 4 at the plate. Bussard drove in eight runs, four coming on a grand slam.

Tyler George, Austin Nichols, Nick Nova and Shaun Bruner each added two hits.

Cote and Caitlin Francalancia each went 2 for 3 with an RBI to help the Eagles to a non-league victory over visiting Central Linn (9-15, 8-8 in 2A Special District 2).

Both of Cote's hits went for extra-bases while she held the Cobras to three hits in a complete-game effort on the mound.
