South Albany took part in the East County Classic track and field competition Friday at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.

The eight-team field included the Rebels, Hermiston, Hood River Valley, Lakeridge, Oregon City, Reynolds, and West Salem from Oregon and Battle Ground High School of Washington.

The top individual placers for South Albany were Tony Darcy in the shot and Chris Andres in the boys 400 meter run and Brittany Weber in the girls 100 high hurdles.

Darcy's 49-4½ effort trailed only West Salem's Chase Sexton's 54-8½ toss., Andres finished third in 52.53 just off Hood River's Mo Bruechman's 50.98 pace. Weber timed 17.68 in the hurdles behind Samantha Berryman (16.78) and Stacy Sawin (17.28) both of Lakedridge.

Other top Rebel performances for the boys came from Tony Ruggles, fourth in the 3k Steeplechase, (11:31.40), Eric Preble, fourth in the pole vault (11-0), Cameron Wark, fifth in the 110 hurdles (16.68), Antony Early, fifth in the 3000 (9:40.80), and Justin Boies, fifth in the high jump (5-11).

For the girls, top South finishers included Ella Beugli fourth in the discus (91-6), Andrea McFarland, fourth in the pole vault (8-0), Jessica Perkins, fourth in the triple jump (32-6), Mandy Weiland, fifth in the shot (33-11¾), and Tiffany Bartlett, fifth in the javelin (107-5).
