South Albany pulled away after leading 16-11 at halftime for a 35-19 home win against Crescent Valley.

The victory improved the Rebels' chances of advancing out of the Mid-Willamette Conference.

South is now 5-3 overall and

3-2 in the conference.

Leading 16-11, the Rebels stopped a fake punt by Crescent Valley deep in Raider territory in the third quarter.

South got the stop and added to its lead with an Erik van Keulen 26-yard field goal.

The game was stopped for about 20 minutes in the third quarter to bring in an ambulance for South Albany's T.J. Fox, who suffered a broken leg and was taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

"He was in good spirits," said South Albany athletic director Jason Platt. "It could've been a lot worse."

The Rebels tacked on three more scores in the fourth quarter, the last after the South defense sacked CV quarterback Brett Huggins and then recovered the ball.

South Albany's rushing attack led the way Jesse Duke finished with 231 yards on 23 carries, and Colby Maynard added 177 on 31 rushes.

The Mid-Willamette Conference race took an unexpected turn Friday night.

Silverton upset Corvallis 7-6 on Friday. The Spartans' loss pulls South Albany even with Corvallis as both teams are 3-2 in the conference.

The Rebels and Spartans face off next week in Corvallis.

South Albany then concludes its season with what could be a loser-out game at Silverton.

Silverton plays Crescent Valley next week.
