After last week's victory over crosstown rival South Albany, the veteran West Albany squad was not going to allow a letdown in its regular season finale.

West Albany came out of the gates on fire, scoring 56 points in the first half. Senior Matt McHenry scored three times in the first quarter, including two receiving touchdowns. Junior Elliott O'Bryan hauled in a pair of touchdown passes.

attack was led by junior quarterback Reese Miller, who tossed a season-high four touchdown passes in the win.

West Albany coach Randy Nyquist was pleased with the play of his quarterback.

"Week by week, we have shown great improvement in the passing game. Reese did another great job tonight," Nyquist said.

Anthony LaCoste, who leads the Mid-Willamette Conference in rushing with 1,645 yards entering play Friday night, finished with 80 yards rushing and one score in limited action.

Nyquist felt his team was sharp all game.

"We spread the ball around well on offense, and controlled the line of scrimmage on defense," he said.

The Bulldogs will spend the next week working on fundamentals.

"We are going to go back to the basics, and not worry about game planning until the following week," said coach Nyquist.

West will have a bye next week in the first round of the 5A state playoffs and will then host the winner of the Pendleton/Churchill contest.
