West Albany boys win tournament

West Albany's boys golf team won the league opener in Mid-Willamette play at Trysting Tree, shooting 299 as a team. South Albany finished fifth, and Lebanon seventh.

"The greens had been sanded and were a bit erratic today," said West Albany head coach Dennis Rector. "Although we shot well as a team, we had a number of three-putts."

Nick Sherwood of West finished first overall with a 72. Teammate Hans Reimers came in second with a round of 73.

Don Mayville was the top golfer for Lebanon, shooting an 83. Kyle Tudor led the Rebels with an 88.

West Albany hosted the 27th annual West Albany Invitational at Spring Hill Country Club on Saturday. The host Bulldogs won the tournament, shooting 291 and finishing three over par as a team.

Santiam Christian earned a sixth-lace finish. South Albany finished in seventh.

Nick Sherwood of West was the top overall golfer, shooting a 71.

West Albany as a team was under par on the back nine.

SC boys place second

Santiam Christian placed second in its league opener behind Salem Academy on the 5,990-yard, par-72 course at the Santiam Golf Club.

Erik Hellesto had the top score for the Eagles, shooting an 81, at the Special District 2 tournament.

SC plays Monday at Bandon Dunes and on Tuesday hosts a league tournament at Spring Hill Country Club.

Bulldogs place second

Lebanon, South Albany, and West Albany competed in the nine hole, Mid-Willamette Conference tournament at the Golf Club of Oregon.

Crescent Valley finished first, followed by West Albany. Lebanon came in fifth.

Katie Ortman of West Albany placed second overall, shooting a 40 on the afternoon. Ortman finished three shots back of tournament medalist Kaitlyn Doyle.
